IATA Class 7 Type A Packages

Type A packages must not contain activities greater than A1 or A2. They must meet all of the requirements for Type IP-3 packages, as well as the following requirements:

  • If designed to contain liquid, it must pass a drop test from a height of 9 m, followed by a penetration test from an increased height of 1.7 m.
  • The design must include sufficient absorbent material to absorb twice the volume of liquid contents, or the containment system must be composed of primary inner and secondary outer components that enclose and retain the liquid.
  • If designed to contain gases, the package must prevent loss or dispersal.
  • Any additional requirements for fissile material.
