IATA Documentation

The shipper is responsible for providing the applicable information on the required documentation for consignment of each shipment of dangerous goods to the operator. The information may be provided on the Shipper's Declaration or, if agreed upon, through one of two methods of electronic data transfer called Electronic Data Processing (EDP) or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). For each shipment, the shipper must ensure the following:

  • The correct form is used in the correct manner.
  • The information on the form is accurate, easy to identify, legible, and durable.
  • The form is properly signed when the shipment is presented to the operator.
  • The shipment has been prepared in accordance with these Regulations.

The shipper must retain a copy of the Shipper's Declaration and any additional documentation specified for a minimum of three months. In addition, if the shipper uses any electronic documentation, the shipper must be able to reproduce the documents in printed form.
