IATA Excepted Quantities

Some types of dangerous goods may be transported in very small quantities as cargo only. They are exempt from the marking, labeling, and documentation portions of these regulations if prepared using Subsection 2.6. Excepted quantities of dangerous goods are not permitted in or as checked or carry-on baggage, or in the mail.

Each category is assigned an alphanumeric EQ Code, E0 through E5, which indicates the maximum quantity per inner packaging and maximum quantity per outer packaging.

If multiple excepted quantity dangerous goods are packaged together, the total quantity per outer package must be limited to the most restrictive code.

There are no shipping papers required; however, packages of dangerous goods in excepted quantities must use the Excepted Quantity Mark, which must be applied to one face of the package. The primary hazard class or division must be shown on the mark.
