IATA Operator Variations

Operator variations cannot be less restrictive than the DGR. In addition, operator variations are applicable to all transportation performed by the operators.

When operators submit variations, they must meet the following criteria:

  • Have an impact on the shipper's ability to have the particular dangerous goods accepted for transport
  • Must not repeat existing DGR provisions
  • Must not include restrictions that are purely operational in nature

Operator variations are identified by two alphanumeric characters that indicate the operator followed by a two-digit number that indicates the numerical sequence of the variation. For example, DL-02 is the second variation for Delta Airlines.
