IATA Outer Packaging Codes
Each type of UN approved outer or single packaging is designated by a two- or three- character code. The code expresses the following information:

- A capital letter following the number to indicate the type of material used for the packaging (such as wood, steel, plastic)
- If applicable, a number indicating the packaging category in which the packaging belongs
