IATA Packaging Letter Codes
Composite packagings use two capital letters in the second position in the code. The first capital letter indicates the material of the inner receptacle and the second letter indicates the material of the outer packaging. The following capital letters are used to indicate the type of material the packaging is composed of, placed in the second position of the code:
- A - Steel (all types and surface treatments)
- B - Aluminum
- C - Natural wood
- D - Plywood
- F - Reconstituted wood
- G - Fiberboard
- H - Plastic material (including other polymeric materials such as rubber)
- L - Textile
- M - Paper, multi-wall
- N - Metal (other than steel or aluminum)
- P - Glass, porcelain, or stoneware (not used in these Regulations)
