IATA Packing - Shipper's Responsibilities
The shipper is responsible for all aspects of the packing of dangerous goods. When preparing a dangerous goods package for transport, the shipper must do the following:
- Comply with the packing requirements appropriate to the type of package used.
- Use only the packagings permitted by the applicable packing instructions specified in columns G, I, and K of the List of Dangerous Goods.
- Restrict the overall quantity per package to the limits specified in Columns H, J, or L of the List of Dangerous Goods, or to the design limits of the package, whichever is more restrictive.
- Assemble and secure all components of the package.
- Ensure that the external surfaces of the package are free from contamination.
- Ensure that all shipper responsibilities are completely fulfilled when the package is presented to the operator for shipment.
