IATA Dangerous Goods Carried on by Passengers or Crew
Dangerous goods are forbidden to be carried by passengers or crew as checked baggage, as carry-on baggage, or on their person, except as noted in Paragraphs 2.3.2 through 2.3.5. These paragraphs describe provisions for dangerous goods items that are permitted to be carried by passengers and crew with operator approval. These provisions do not apply to any baggage that has been separated from its owner during transit.
The following dangerous goods are forbidden to be carried by passengers or crew:
- Security equipment in attaché cases, cash boxes, or bags that contain dangerous goods such as lithium batteries or pyrotechnic materials (except as permitted in Paragraph 2.3.2.6)
- Disabling devices such as mace or pepper spray
- Liquid oxygen devices
- Electroshock weapons (such as Tasers)
The following dangerous goods are permitted as checked baggage only and with the approval of the operator:
- Ammunition
- Wheelchairs and mobility aids with non-spillable batteries
- Camping stoves and fuel containers
- Security equipment containing lithium batteries that meets the provisions in Paragraph 2.3.2.6
The following dangerous goods are permitted as carry-on baggage only and with the approval of the operator:
- Mercury barometer or thermometer
- Collapsible mobility aids with lithium ion batteries
The following dangerous goods are permitted as checked or carry-on baggage with the approval of the operator:
- Medical oxygen
- Small non-flammable gas cylinders cartridges fitted into devices (Division 2.2)
- Avalanche rescue backpack
- Chemical agent monitoring equipment
- Dry ice
- Heat-producing articles
The following dangerous goods are permitted without operator approval:
- Medicinal or toiletry articles (such as perfume)
- Aerosols in Division 2.2 (for medicinal uses or toiletry articles)
- Safety matches
- Alcoholic beverages
- Lithium battery-powered portable medical electronic devices (PMED) and portable electronic devices
- Spare lithium-ion batteries for portable medical electronic devices (PMED) and portable electronic devices (see Table 2.3.A)
