IATA State Variations

When State variations are more restrictive than the DGR, they apply to the transport of dangerous goods by air:

  • To, from, or through all territory subject to the sovereignty of the notifying State by all operators
  • Outside the territory of the notifying State to all operators for whom the notifying State is the State of the operator

When State variations are less restrictive than the DGR, the variations are listed for informational purposes only. They may only be applied within the territory of the notifying State of the operator.

State variations are identified by a three-letter code followed by a two-digit number sequence that indicates the specific variation. The first two letters in the code indicate the state and the last letter is always "G" for government. For example, USG-01 is the first variation for the United States.
