Mold Remediation Equipment and Cleaners
There are several pieces of equipment and cleaners that can be used during a containment and remediation. Let's look into each a little more deeply.
Wet Vacuum
These can also be referred to as water-extraction vacuums. These vacuums are designed to collect water that has accumulated on floors, carpets, or hard surfaces. When using a wet vacuum, care should be used to only operate on wet surfaces and materials. Tanks, hoses, and attachments need to be thoroughly cleaned and dried after they have been used. If these precautions are not taken, there is a greater chance for spreading mold or mold spores.
Damp Wipe
Mold can be removed from hard surfaces by using a cleaner and sponge or wipe. You should always follow the instructions from the manufacturer when using cleaning products.
HEPA Vacuum
HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air. These vacuums are recommended for final stage clean up in a remediation, once contaminated materials have been removed. Care must be taken when changing the filter as it has collected mold and mold spores.
Biocides
Biocides are substances that can kill living organisms. The most commonly known biocide is chlorine bleach. The problem presented with the use of biocides is that a small amount of mold spores will remain despite their use. If high moisture occurs again, these mold spores will grow. Dead mold can cause a range of health problems. Solely killing the mold is not enough; it also needs to be removed from the structure.
