Air-Purifying Respirator #1: Particulate Respirators
The first of the three types of air-purifying respirator is the particulate respirator. Particulate respirators capture particles in the air (like dusts, mists, and fumes). They do not protect against gases or vapors.
With regular use, particles will accumulate on a particulate respirator's filter. These will fill in the spaces between the fibers of the filter. Employees should replace filters when it becomes difficult to breathe through the respirator.
