PRCS Written Program
As we mentioned earlier, OSHA requires an employer to produce a written permit-required confined space entry program that is specific to the space that will be entered. The program must include the following components:
- Employee responsibilities
- Appropriate measures to prevent unauthorized entry
- Identification and evaluation of permit space hazards
- Proof of atmospheric condition testing
- Established means and procedures to eliminate or control hazards necessary for safe entry
- Description of personal protective equipment (PPE) and any other equipment necessary for safe entry
- Outline of appropriate procedures for summoning rescue and emergency services, and preventing unauthorized personnel from attempting rescue
- An established written system for the preparation, issue, use and cancellation of entry permits
- A review of established entry operations as necessary
The performance of a team, which consists of one or multiple entrants, attendants, supervisors, and emergency responders, is improved when appropriate training on the specific procedures is outlined in the written program.
