Respiratory Protection Program
The main purpose of a respiratory protection program is to prevent exposure to air contaminated with harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, vapors, or sprays. This is to prevent illness caused by these workplace hazards.
Employers must designate a program administrator who is responsible for the program. This specific person must be knowledgeable about respirators and capable of supervising the program.
Some larger companies or departments may have additional programs or specialists, such as an in-house medical departments or fire prevention departments with advanced-level personnel in management.
The program administrator should work alongside these people and departments in order to administer the program. For smaller companies or departments, an upper-level superintendent, foreman, or otherwise qualified person must serve as program administrator.
