Safe Work Practices During Operation

Implement the following practices during operation:

  • Always close the lift platform chains or doors.
  • Stand on the floor of the bucket or lift platform.
  • Do not exceed the manufacturer's load capacity limits.
  • Do not drive the lift with the bucket or platform raised, unless the manufacturer allows for this

  • Do not exceed vertical or horizontal reach limits.
  • Maintain a safe clearance from electrical lines.
  • Do not operate an aerial lift in high winds above those recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not override the hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical safety devices.
  • Never use the aerial boom lift as a crane or other non-approved lifting device.
  • Raise and lower the boom slowly.
  • Watch out for obstacles such as tree limbs, power lines, and other similar hazards.
  • Never slam a control switch.
  • Stop work if something malfunctions.
  • Barricade or section off the working area, and do not let anyone work, walk, or stand under a raised boom.
  • Keep non-operational personnel at least 6 feet away from the equipment when in use.
